Monochrome photos of Hampton Court

Amazing!

Historically, every photo I've seen that Hampton Court Palace has of the maze in the Wilderness is taken from the upstairs window of the house on the far right. Recently a rare opportunity arose to photograph the maze from a slightly different perspective on top of the scaffold currently on the Lion Gate piers that are having conservation repairs carried out to them.

Bonfire Night

Remember remember... and this is how. Bonfires, fireworks, sparklers and the odd burning effigy. An odd custom when you look at it that way but an English tradition none the less. Here are just a few shots from round the fire at a recent local bonfire night.

Barry's Fireworks

Some firework displays are good, some are excellent. This was definitely one of the excellent ones. I'm hoping that these photos do them justice for the people who let them off every year - and don't get to see them like the crowd do!

Tudor Chimneys

How many chimneys are there in this photo?............. Good luck!

Heres a fact for you... there are 411 chimneys on Hampton Court Palace (coincidently the bus from Molesey to Kingston is the 411). There are just under 300 Tudor chimneys like the ones in the photo and about 100 chimneys on the Christopher Wren side of the building. Only about 50 of the Tudor chimneys are decorative. These chimneys aren't exactly 'original'. Many were rebuilt and made even more decorative in the Victorian era.

Esher Fireworks

It wouldn't be November without fireworks!
